According to the research of Mr. Gou Guo, an expert in the study of "-Ci Hua", the third volume and fifty-fourth chapter of the "-Ci Hua" engraved by Ding Yi in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, "A dish of sauce on the Datong ginger". This "Datong ginger" refers to the ginger produced in the Datong area of Tongling. According to folk legends, "Tongling White Ginger" was a tribute in the Song Dynasty. After Emperor Qianlong tasted "Tongling White Ginger" in the south of the Yangtze River, he designated it to be sent to the royal courtyard. Tongling has a history of more than 2,000 years of planting white ginger, with its own unique planting methods: deep digging and ridge building, cutting and sowing, building sheds for shade, hand-pulling during harvest, storing seeds in ginger pavilions, and germinating with stoves. These planting techniques are the result of generations of inheritance, accumulation, summary and innovation by ginger farmers.
