Ningxia Xiaoqu
Ningxia Xiaoqu, commonly known as "Ningxia storytelling" or "Ningxia Xiaodiao", was once popular in the northern Ningxia region and is a traditional storytelling art. There is no written record in historical chronicles, so the time of its formation is unknown. When singing Ningxia Xiaoqu, two people sing duets according to the storyline, forming a certain relationship between funny and supporting roles, which is very similar to crosstalk; if one person sings, one person plays and sings the three-stringed instrument. The singing music is in the form of qupai, and the singing structure is single and repeated; the lyrics format includes seven-character sentences in the form of Qiyan, and long and short sentences in the form of Zayan. Ningxia Xiaoqu is a folk music form native to Ningxia. Its themes are very rich and its content is quite substantial, vividly reflecting the life and production scenes of the working people. In 2014, it was included in the "Fourth Batch of National Intangible Cultural Heritage List"; in November 2019, it was included in the "List of National Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative Project Protection Units".
