The "Inner-Painted Snuff Bottle" is a traditional Chinese craft that was created during the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty. According to research, it has a history of nearly 200 years and is a shining pearl in the Chinese art hall. The "Inner-Painted Snuff Bottle" originated in Beijing and was a symbol of status for the royal nobles and dignitaries at that time. During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, Ye Zhongsan, one of the "Four Famous Inner-Painting Masters of Beijing", was known as the pioneer and founder of the current "Beijing" and "Hebei" schools of inner painting. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the Institute of Arts and Crafts was established in Beijing. Since then, the inner painting craft has had a base and a clear master-disciple relationship. At present, there are four major inner painting schools in China: the "Beijing School", the "Hebei School", the "Lu School" and the "Austrian School". The "Inner-Painted Snuff Bottle" of the Wang family was created by Wang Jinxiang (Wang Xinnian's grandfather) in 1910. Wang Jinxiang was born in 1892. He loved painting since he was young. Once, his father took him to Beijing to visit a friend. By chance, he saw a man named Gan Huan painting a snuff bottle, which attracted his attention. However, this craft was very conservative in that era. After returning to Tianjin, Wang Jinxiang learned from Gan Huan and got a bamboo pen to paint in the bottle. After hard study and effort, he finally learned to paint in the snuff bottle. Friends around him liked his snuff bottles very much. Wang Jinxiang gave his works to his friends. In 1945, Wang Jinxiang died in his 50s. Wang Weisheng (son of Wang Jinxiang) was born in Tianjin in 1926 (now deceased). He improved the color and brushwork on the basis of Wang Jinxiang's painting and gradually formed his own artistic style. Later, Japan invaded China, and then caught up with the Cultural Revolution to eliminate the four olds. His family was raided and nothing was left. From then on, Wang Weisheng stopped painting snuff bottles. Wang Xinnian (son of Wang Weisheng) has loved inner painting since he was a child. Under the instruction of his elders, he gradually embarked on the art of inner painting. After more than 20 years of hard study, he has acquired a deep foundation in inner painting. The artistic characteristics of Wang Xinnian's inner painting snuff bottles are fine texture and dyeing, accurate modeling, and elegant style. He uses the comprehensive expression of Chinese painting colors and oil painting colors to imitate the picture effects of multiple painting types. Especially in the subject of animals, his creation is very outstanding. He paints the hair of various animals in distinct layers, vividly, vividly, and has strong artistic expression. His works have a strong sense of image and tenacious vitality. Wang Xinnian not only inherited the artistic style of his ancestors and the exquisite skills of inner painting, but also applied his art in accordance with his talents. Moreover, because of his wide range of creative themes, he can paint figures, landscapes, flowers and birds, animals, Cordyceps, portraits, and calligraphy.
