Pole climbing (pole climbing in Daliufen Village) is a national intangible cultural heritage. Pole climbing in Daliufen Village, a "unique skill" of Jinghai District's intangible cultural heritage, is said to have originated from the "Macaques climbing on the pole" in the Western Han Dynasty. It refers to an activity in which people climbed up the pole barefoot like macaques, praying to the sky for rain and a better life. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, it was spread to Daliufen Village and became a popular mass sports activity with a history of more than 300 years. It is a representative project of national intangible cultural heritage. In 2021, Jinghai District Pole Climbing (Pole Climbing in Daliufen Village) was selected into the fifth batch of national intangible cultural heritage representative project list announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, as well as the extended project list of the national intangible cultural heritage representative project list.
