Xiangshan Flower Gongs and Drums

Sichuan
🎧  Listen to Introduction

Xiangshan Flower Gongs and Drums are an intangible cultural heritage of Sichuan Province. Xiangshan Flower Gongs and Drums are a unique music of ancient Sichuan. They were created in the Qing Dynasty and began to spread among the people when Xiangshan folk drummers formed a "Gongtang" (i.e., a band). The instruments of the Flower Gongs and Drums consist of a large gong, a large drum, a large bowl, and four horse gongs. The performance is flexible and the rhythm is jumping. Later, the Flower Gongs and Drums were passed down through family inheritance or by forming a team of the same clan. In May 2004, a Qing Dynasty Xiangshan Flower Gongs and Drums score was discovered in Daying County. This is the earliest and most complete gong and drum score discovered in Sichuan so far. The book records more than 90 Sichuan ancient music tunes that have been lost for many years, such as "Yishunfeng", "Jiejiegao", "Guashuai", and "Diaohouzi". Xiangshan Gongs and Drums have attracted attention from the outside world. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
