Qing Linchun
There were originally three Qinglinchun Tea Houses in Beijing, all of which were opened by Lin Zixun, a Fujianese. One was located in the Quanyechang, Langfang Toutiao, outside Qianmen, one was located in the inner city Dong'an Market, and the other was located on the east side of Qianmenwai Street. Now the first two Qinglinchun Tea Houses no longer exist, and only the Qianmen Qinglinchun Tea House is still doing a prosperous business. In the late Qing Dynasty, the "First Quanyechang of the Capital", or "Quanyechang" for short, was opened in Langfang Toutiao, outside Qianmen, Beijing. This was a place in early China where various commodities were displayed and sold. The place brought together local specialties and special handicrafts from all over the country. Lin Zixun came to Beijing from his hometown of Fujian and was an apprentice in a paint shop specializing in Fujian lacquer in Quanyechang. After graduating, he did not do his own business, but switched to the tea business. Because Lin Zixun's hometown of Fujian is a place in China where tea and jasmine tea are produced in abundance, many Fujianese are engaged in the tea business. Although Lin Zixun was young, he saw that the Fujian lacquer business was not as good as the tea business at that time. Therefore, after he finished his apprenticeship, with the help of his fellow villagers, he set up a tea stall in front of the Quanyechang. The tea goods were all bought on credit from tea merchants from his fellow villagers, and the accounts were settled and paid after the goods were sold. Setting up a tea stall requires a lot of hard work, and you have to buy the goods and sell them yourself. The sun is shining in the summer and the cold wind blows in the winter. Because Lin Zixun was willing to work hard, and because he did business without greed, he sold at a low profit and attracted some customers, and the business was good. After working for more than a year, he saved a sum of money. It happened that at this time, a small business in the Quanyechang was losing money and could not continue, so it wanted to close the business. After the mediation of a middleman, Lin Zixun turned the small shop upside down and opened the "Qinglinchun Tea Shop" around the 10th year of the Republic of China (1921). Around the 13th year of the Republic of China (1924), Lin Zixun opened a second Qinglinchun Tea Shop in the Dong'an Market. Lin Zixun saw that Qianmen Street was the most prosperous commercial street in Beijing at that time. There was the "Qianmen Railway Station" on the east side and the "Qianmen West Railway Station" on the west side. There were many tourists and shops here. It was the best geographical location for doing business. In 1927, he opened a third store on the east side of Qianmen Street (near the Wupailou). Lin Zixun was kind to others. The treatment of the clerks and apprentices of Qinglinchun Tea House was better than that of other tea shops. The monthly salary was a few cents higher than that of other tea shops. The food was good. There was fine grain every day, either rice or white flour. On the first and fifteenth day of every month, there was wine and meat for the employees to eat and reward. However, the store rules of Qinglinchun Tea House were strict. The clerks and apprentices who received customers in front of the store must be neatly dressed and hat, and they were not allowed to have long hair. They all had flat heads. They were not allowed to wear short clothes and pants, and they all had long gowns, and their clothes must be neat and clean. The face and hands must be washed, and the nails must be cut long. No laughing, no playing, no smoking, no picking noses are allowed inside the counter. Because the counter attendants and apprentices have to grab the tea leaves with their hands, dirty hands are disgusting and affect business. In addition, the counter attendants and apprentices who serve customers are not allowed to eat raw garlic and green onions. Qinglinchun Tea House initially sold whole barrels and cans of Fujian tea intact, which was not popular, and the tea drinking habits and favorite varieties of Beijingers were not the same as those of Fujianese. Lin Zixun found that Beijingers liked jasmine tea, so the tea sold by Qinglinchun Tea House was mainly jasmine tea, and also sold green tea, black tea, oolong tea and compressed tea. The grades are also complete, with low-grade tea leaves and high-grade tea leaves. Famous teas include: West Lake Longjing, Xinyang Maojian, Dongting Biluo, Lushan Yunwu, Huangshan Maofeng, Junshan Yinzhen, Wuyi Rock Tea, etc. Qinglinchun Tea House has a special person who purchases newly picked leaves from Fujian tea farms and jasmine flowers from flower farms. They hire people to smoke them once or twice. Then they are transported to Beijing for processing, smoking, and blending. This method of purchasing tea from the tea producing area and smoking and blending by themselves reduces costs and improves quality. When Qinglinchun Tea House determines the grade and price of tea, it usually sends people to other tea shops, especially nearby tea shops, to understand the market situation, buy some tea, and compare it with its own tea of the same grade, so that its own tea quality is better than that of other shops and the price is slightly lower than that of other shops. In order to increase the popularity of the tea in the store, Qinglinchun Tea House uses some customers to promote itself. There were teahouses everywhere in Beijing at that time, and some people spent the whole day in teahouses, making a pot of tea while drinking tea and chatting. Qinglinchun Tea House specially prepared some "door bags" for these customers, which were slightly larger than normal small bags of tea and fuller, and sold them to them. These people naturally praised Qinglinchun Tea House for the strong taste, correct color, and sufficient quantity of tea. The tea wrapping paper of Qinglinchun Tea Shop is also very particular. Whether it is a large tea wrapping paper or a small tea wrapping paper, it is printed with words such as "Qinglinchun Tea Shop, address: East of Qianmen Street, red and green flower tea" on a wooden board. Use tea wrapping paper for publicity. In addition to selling goods in the store, Qinglinchun Tea Shop also has two or three "runners" (that is, salesmen) to show the appearance of various small packages of tea and sell tea in teahouses, bathhouses, theaters, cinemas, small grocery stores, restaurants, and restaurants. There were many shops in Beijing that sold Qinglinchun tea on behalf of others. There are many famous tea shops in the Qianmen area. Since Qinglinchun Tea Shop is located in a good terrain, close to the railway station, there are many pedestrians, and Qinglinchun is good at management, the business is very prosperous after it opened. However, after the "July 7 Incident" in 1937, the north-south traffic was blocked, and the supply of tea in Jiangnan was not smooth, which greatly affected the business of Qinglinchun Tea Shop. Coincidentally, Lin Zixun passed away, and the business of Qinglinchun was taken over by his descendant Lin Lianzhong. With the help of the store staff, Lin Lianzhong was able to maintain the business. In 1956, the public-private partnership was established. In 1962, Qianmen Qinglinchun moved to Wuzhou Electric Material Store and reopened. Until the construction of Yilong Building, it moved to the west of Beitou Road, Qianmen Street. In 1998, the area was expanded and renovated, and a teahouse was opened next to it for customers to drink tea and listen to music. At the same time, a branch was opened on Qianmen East Street. In mid-1966, the plaque was removed, and in 1982, the old brand was restored. The store has always inherited the business tradition of genuine goods and enthusiastic service. It was rated as a trustworthy unit for price and quality by the Chongwen District Government, and has been rated as a district-level advanced enterprise many times. There were originally three Qinglinchun Tea Houses in Beijing. Now, except for the Qianmen store, the other two, in Langfang Toutiao Quanyechang outside Qianmen and in Dong'an Market, no longer exist.
