Ziyang Folk Songs
Ziyang folk songs are folk songs with strong local flavor of southern Shaanxi that are circulated in Ziyang County, Shaanxi Province. Ziyang is located in the central part of southern Shaanxi and is named after Zhang Boduan, the founder of the Southern School of Taoism. The 25 ballads in the "Zhou Nan" and "Zhao Nan" parts of the Book of Songs, the earliest collection of ancient Chinese poetry, were mainly spread in the upper reaches of the Han River, including Ziyang. During the change of dynasties, Ziyang folk songs gradually matured with the formation and development of various living customs of the people, and reached their peak in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Ziyang folk songs are extremely rich in collections, with a total of 5,028 songs discovered, 828 of which have been compiled and printed. The genres include calls, folk songs and minor tunes, including different types of songs such as community fire songs, folk songs, religious songs, and songs. Due to its profound accumulation and wide singing, Ziyang County was named "the hometown of folk songs" by the Ministry of Culture. Ziyang folk songs have been passed down for a long time. The lyrics are cleverly metaphorical, humorous, and have high literary value. The dialects used are similar to Sichuan and Chu, and have unique charm. The melody is beautiful and graceful, and the colorful vibrato singing method that moves between the scales in the high-pitched singing method has unique value. The inheritance of Ziyang folk songs directly relies on various folk activities, reflecting the rich folk cultural content. Representative pieces of Ziyang folk songs include "The Man Sings Mountain Songs Across the Door", "Singing Mountain Songs", "Washing Clothes", "Nanshan Bamboo", etc. Ziyang folk songs have an inestimable role in enriching the treasure house of Chinese music and promoting Chinese music culture.
