The basic characteristics of the Eighteen Arhats are "shocking, dangerous, suspenseful, wonderful, and beautiful". Thrilling. In order to highlight the power and beauty of the nation, in the 40-minute performance of the Eighteen Arhats, there is no replacement or rest in the middle. Through continuous modeling, it brings people a sense of novelty and excitement. People often feel nervous and exclaim as one difficult dance move after another. While being shocked in their hearts, they achieve a kind of beautiful enjoyment. Dangers are everywhere. The Eighteen Arhats is a highly acrobatic dance art. Many of the movements are more dangerous because of the skill. Especially for the nine young Arhats, who are between 7 and 10 years old, they are not only required to be brave and straight during the performance, but also to stand, sit, or ride on the shoulders of the big Arhats, using their body and arms to shape various images. It is really a courageous person with great skills. With the beautiful dance shapes, they escape danger every time, achieving a level of generous shape and stretched movements, adding infinite artistic charm, making people applaud and gain spiritual satisfaction. Suspense. In the performance of the Eighteen Arhats, in addition to performing the "Eight Auspicious Wheels" (Earth Wheel) and "Golden Snake Shedding Shell" (Snake Shedding Shell), most of the young Arhats perform off the ground on the bodies of the big Arhats. Especially at the climax of the performance, the big and small Arhats form three or four layers of Arhats in succession. At this time, people will worry about the young Arhats, and with the successful performance, the audience's fears will just fall. This strong artistic effect brings unexpected joy and is breathtaking. It is full of fun. Although the "Eighteen Arhats" is based on Buddhist stories, it is clearly used for our own benefit and endowed with distinctive local characteristics. Natural phenomena and life details familiar to local people, such as "snake shedding its shell" and "riding a cow", are expressed through artistic dance postures, which are very vivid and charming. They not only reflect the wisdom of folk artists, but also increase the aesthetic value of this folk dance. It is beautiful. The dance of the Eighteen Arhats emphasizes the organizational changes of formations and scenes, and uses auspicious words and poems that are appreciated by both the secular and the vulgar as the names of the routines, making the pictures, routes, and changes more poetic. Through a series of dance modeling movements, the performers convey a kind of artistic conception of truth, goodness, and beauty to people. This is a concentrated reflection of the aesthetic taste of our national aesthetic psychology. The artistic effect it brings is that the aesthetic psychology of both the audience and the performers is greatly satisfied.
