Pingtang Miao costumes have a highly decorative aesthetic style. Miao costumes are exquisitely crafted and clean, which is amazing. The Miao people in Pingtang County are divided into two series: black flower Miao and red flower Miao. The most representative ones are the Xique Miao in Xintang and Gong'e, the Baibang Miao in Datang Shangmo and Zhangbu, the Honghua Miao in Shuchang, Youba, Jiatong and Jinqiao, and the Bangmu Miao in Kaluo, Yazhou and Gudong. The Xique Miao women in Xintang area wear fake hair on top of their heads in a disc shape, with silver bubble flower headscarves, silver hanging flowers, red tassels and pheasant flower feathers. They wear a short coat with a large front and large sleeves, with 3-4 layers of backpacks stacked behind the collar, and the lapels and cuffs are decorated with embroidery or blue and white cloth pieces. They wear a pleated skirt with a white cloth edge, an embroidery belt, and red and green hydrangeas. They wear 3-7 silver collars and silver earrings, and hang strings of seashells on their backs. Silver ornaments and copper coins are hung at the bottom of the strings of seashells. They wrap their feet with batik white cloth or sheep felt leggings, tie red flower belts, hang silver earrings on their ears, wear silver or jade bracelets on their hands, and wear straw sandals or cloth shoes. The clothing is divided into daily wear and formal wear. Men wrap their heads with batik polka dot headscarves, wear long shirts, striped belts, pants, and cloth shoes. Miao women in Shuchang and Youba wear wigs and mushroom-shaped buns tied with yellow beard ribbons, with tassels hanging behind their waists and silver ornaments inserted. They wear a head-penetrating garment on the upper body, with the front hem reaching the abdomen and the back hem reaching the hips. The front and back hems are decorated with cross patterns and square patterns, and the sleeves are decorated with brocade patterns. They wear colorful pleated skirts with colorful figures or bird patterns on them, red cloth pieces at the bottom of the skirt, and red and white embroidered ribbons. They wrap their legs with white cloth and wear cloth shoes. Men wear long blue cloth gowns, belts, and headscarves. Girls of the Karo, Yazhou, and Gudong Bangmu Miao tribes have long hair on the top of their heads, cut short around the sides, and tie a bun at the back with a red comb. Women tie a bun at the back of their heads in a hook shape, insert bone hairpins, and surround their foreheads with seashell flowers. They wear a 1-sleeved top, with the front hem short to the abdomen and the back hem long to the hips. The sleeves are decorated with embroidery patterns, and the back hem is connected with colorful tassels. They wear blue cloth pleated skirts and blue cloth belts. They wrap their legs with white cloth and wear cloth shoes. They wear silver ornaments such as top rings, silver chains, and big earrings. Girls of the Zhongbai Bang Miao tribe in Datangli have short hair around the sides, tie a bun at the back of their heads, let their hair hang long, and insert silver ornaments and red thread flowers in the bun. Women tie a bun at the back of their heads with a wooden comb. They wear a blue cloth short jacket with a front opening and a pattern on the front, and a rectangular back plate with round silver flowers and seashells on it. They wear blue cloth pleated skirts with white cloth piping at the bottom. They wear blue cloth belts, silver bells, silver flower ribbons, and 5-7 silver necklaces. They wrap their legs with blue cloth bandages and wear cloth shoes or straw shoes. Miao women learn to embroider and crosshatch from a young age. The skirts are decorated with the stitching that is slowly scraped out with the fingers. It usually takes a year to make a set of clothes. Miao women like to wear silver items. The most silver items on the clothes are more than 20 kilograms.
