Dong nationality song is a kind of folk singing form popular in Pingqiu, Yandong, Jinping County and the surrounding Dong nationality areas of Tianzhu County and Jianhe County. Pingqiu Town is located in the northwest of Jinping County, on the watershed between Qingshui River and Xiaojiang River. Both the Dong and Miao nationalities have the habit of calling polyphonic chorus "song". "鼟" literally means the sound of "鼟鼟" when beating a drum. In Dongxiang, "鼟" is used as "level". The Dong people in Pingqiu are good at singing and dancing. Whether they are sad or happy, the Dong people express their feelings with songs. Therefore, Dong songs are naturally produced in the production and life of the Dong people, and they have their own tunes. The Dong nationality song in Pingqiu is rich in content, beautiful in melody, and varied in tune. There are mainly: love songs, vernacular, drinking songs, folk songs, ancient songs, and stepping songs. Love songs: Young men and women of the Dong nationality communicate with each other and express their feelings through songs from knowing each other to falling in love and getting married. Love songs are divided into first meeting songs, bridge-building songs, yearning songs, and couple songs. The tunes are harmonious and full of lyrical emotions. They are accompanied by wooden leaves. Drinking songs: They are divided into small songs and big songs. They are sung on festive occasions such as weddings, housewarmings, and childbirth. Generally, they are improvised duets between one host and one guest. The lead singer repeats the last three words of the first sentence, and the other voices sing the last three words in a chorus, and the cycle repeats. Female voices accompany the singing, and the tune is gentle and lingering. The big song is accompanied by male voices, and the tune is high-spirited, vigorous, unrestrained, and heroic. Mountain songs: They are labor production songs that the Dong people sing to relieve fatigue, worries, depression, and loneliness when they go to the mountains to work, and they are self-entertaining. The tunes are free, lyrical, and leisurely. Mountain songs can also be accompanied by wooden leaves. Ancient songs: starting from Pangu creating the world, singing about the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors, the Tang and Song ancestors, singing about Liu Bei using troops, Wu Song fighting the tiger, singing about Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, the content is rich and everything is sung. The tunes are diverse. After singing one or two songs, a vernacular is added to add the finishing touch and icing on the cake. Caitang songs: When holding major events or welcoming important guests, Pingqiu must dance the Lusheng dance and sing the Caitang songs. Young men and women dressed in their best clothes come to the Caigetang, accompanied by the majestic sound of the Mangtong and the sound of the ox horn, singing the melodious Caitang songs and dancing the heroic Lusheng dance. The Caitang songs are flat and slow, with a distinct rhythm. In addition, there are children's songs, wooden songs, mourning songs, witchcraft songs, etc. The main instruments of the Pingqiu Dong ethnic group's song are Lusheng, drums, Mangtong, trombone, ox horn, wooden leaves, etc. Pingqiu Dong ethnic group singing is a carrier of emotional communication among the local Dong people. No matter whether they are happy, angry, sad or happy, the Dong people communicate, express their feelings and convey their emotions through songs. It has many types and tunes, and is rich in content. It is an excellent folk music culture of the Dong people and plays an important role in the study of the history of Chinese folk music. In recent years, the Dong singers have aged and some have passed away, making it difficult to pass on the Dong songs and vernacular that are circulated among the people. In addition, most young people go out to work, and the number of people who like to sing is gradually decreasing. Young people at home cannot sing Dong songs, and there is a lack of successors to the folk culture of the Dong people. Pingqiu Dong ethnic group singing is also facing a crisis of survival and inheritance. (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.) (No pictures yet, welcome to provide.)
