Lord Howe Island (/haxcax8a/; formerly Lord Howe's Island) is an irregularly crescent-shaped volcanic remnant in the Tasman Sea between Australia and New Zealand, 600xc2xa0km (320xc2xa0nmi) directly east of mainland Port Macquarie, 780xc2xa0km (420xc2xa0nmi) northeast of Sydney, and about 900xc2xa0km (490xc2xa0nmi) southwest of Norfolk Island.
