The Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns[1] is a UNESCO World Heritage site which consists of Sukhothai historical park, Kamphaeng Phet historical park and Si Satchanalai historical park.
Si Satchanalai Historical Park (Thai: xe0xb8xadxe0xb8xb8xe0xb8x97xe0xb8xa2xe0xb8xb2xe0xb8x99xe0xb8x9bxe0xb8xa3xe0xb8xb0xe0xb8xa7xe0xb8xb1xe0xb8x95xe0xb8xb4xe0xb8xa8xe0xb8xb2xe0xb8xaaxe0xb8x95xe0xb8xa3xe0xb9x8cxe0xb8xa8xe0xb8xa3xe0xb8xb5xe0xb8xaaxe0xb8xb1xe0xb8x8axe0xb8x99xe0xb8xb2xe0xb8xa5xe0xb8xb1xe0xb8xa2) covers the ruins of Si Satchanalai, the second-most important town of the Sukhothai Kingdom.
It is on a bank of the Yom River near the modern town of Si Satchanalai in Sukhothai Province.
Major features in the Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park include archaeological remains of ancient sites such as Mueang Chakangrao to the east of the Ping River, Mueang Nakhon Chum to the west, and Mueang Trai Trueng some 18xc2xa0km from the town to the southwest.
Chakangrao, the ancient Kamphaeng Phet town, had the same town planning concept as the old Sukhothai and Si Satchanalai, with separate zones for religious sites both within and outside town limits.
City walls and old fortifications mark the boundary of the rectangular town area, measuring 300xe2x80x93700 metres wide and 2,200 metres long.

Situated in the lower northern region of present-day Thailand, the Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns is a serial property consisting of three physically closely related ancient towns.
The third town, Kamphaeng Phet, was located at the kingdomxe2x80x99s southern frontier and had important military functions in protecting the kingdom from foreign intruders as well as providing security for the kingdomxe2x80x99s extensive trading network.
It is from the remains of these religious monuments that today we best know and appreciate the achievements of the people of the Historic Town of Sukhothai and AssociatedHistoricTowns.
Criterion (i): The Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns represent a masterpieces of the first distinctive Siamese architectural style, reflected in the planning of the towns, the many impressive civic and religious buildings, their urban infrastructure, and a sophisticated hydraulic (water management) system.
Criterion (iii): The Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Towns are representative of the first period of Siamese art and architecture, language and literature, religion, and the codification of law, from which was created the first Thai state.
The integrity of Sukhothai, Si Satchanalai and Kamphaeng Phet is to be found, individually for each town, in the large number of intact standing structures and historic urban morphology but is challenged by the ongoing excavation of the monuments programme.
The entire extent of each historic town is protected within the boundaries of their respective national park, which are also, collectively, the boundaries of the World Heritage property, and no development other than that which serves site protection, conservation and interpretation is allowed.
The authenticity of the Historic Town of Sukhothai and Associated Historic Towns is derived from a variety of sources.
The Historic Town of Sukhothai and its AssociatedHistoricTowns are managed as three independent historical parks under the direction of the Fine Arts Department, Ministry of Culture, which ensures that the management of the three parks is coordinated as a single World Heritage property.
