In the city, people also believed that the proximity of the Volcxc3xa1n de Fuego (English: Volcano of Fire) was the cause of earthquakes; the great architect Diego de Porres even said that all the earthquakes were caused by volcano explosions.
The most commanding, to the south of the city, is the Volcxc3xa1n de Agua or "Volcano of Water", some 3,766 metres (12,356xc2xa0ft) high.
